Location: Sahara, Teknikringen 10B
Language: English
Participating: Clemens Deutsch
This seminar summarises nearly one decade of activities at the Swedish Maritime Robotics Centre (SMaRC), Sweden’s leading research centre for marine robotics and ocean observation platforms. Now, with more than 9 years in the books, it is time to not only look at what lies hidden at depth in the oceans, but also at what lies ahead of us – the technological challenges of the future.
In times of both environmental crises and political instabilities, keeping at least one eye focused on (or under) the oceans is becoming increasingly important. In many situations, marine robots are now our go-to tech solution for getting that important look underneath the water surface. The breadth of possible applications is wide, ranging from hydrographic mapping to oceanographic research and environmental monitoring, food production, site inspection, and surveillance operations.
Research at SMaRC focuses on enhancing the autonomy, perception, endurance, and communication capabilities of marine robots. To demonstrate new technologies, SMaRC is operating a fleet of in-house developed marine robots, including various autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). Our platforms are equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, including multibeam echosounders, imaging sonars, and hyperspectral cameras.
The first 15 to arrive will get at vegeterian wrap and a soft drink!
